Marvila, Diverse and Changing
Located between Lisbon's airport and the Tejo river, Marvila presents great contrasts of narrow lanes and wide avenues along with recent experiments in architecture, small gardens and industrial facilities. The housing style also varies widely, from clusters of high buildings to classic villas to social housing areas. Significant space is given to green spaces, including the Bela Vista golf course and Parque da Bela Vista, where the 'Rock in Rio' concert series is traditionally held. Fábrica do Braço de Prata is a cultural venue along the river that calls attention to this part of the city and brings daily traffic into this industrial zone. With a view toward taking advantage of the banks of the Tejo, a project under consideration would develop housing along the river. Closer to the heart of Marvila, near the Parque da Bela Vista, the new, expansive Hospital de Todos-os-Santos will be built to replace several smaller hospitals in the center of the city. Marvila is changing, yet many areas ripe with development potential and new ventures remain.
